Cancer Survivors Month 2023
June is Cancer Survivors Month. It is a way to celebrate the people and families of people who survive cancer. It doesn’t just help celebrate people with cancer though. It gives people diagnosed with all types of cancer hope by letting them know that there is a chance of survival. It is also a way to support the family members of cancer patients. Once people are aware of struggles of cancer patients, they can support the people who need support the most.
Treatments and clinical trials as well as early detection and research all help improve the chances of survival for cancer patients. There have been multiple breakthroughs in research that help cancer patients survive their illness. Researchers have also found other ways to diagnose cancer, giving cancer patients a better chance since they are receiving treatments early. Research is incredibly important and has even turned some fatal cancers into very treatable, curable illnesses. Childhood leukemia, for instance, was a fatal cancer in the 1960s. It is now curable and easy to treat. There are many different clinical trials for all types of cancer, which will hopefully lead to some form of breakthrough, leading to more people surviving all different types of cancer.
Cancer Survivors Month is also a celebration of life after cancer. There are an estimated 16.9 million people living after a cancer diagnosis. People living after cancer sometimes need help after living through such a traumatic event. There are also challenges related to being a cancer survivor. One problem is that people who survived cancer are more likely to develop other cancers. There can also be problems like limited access to treatments and specialists; denial of health and life insurance; and bills can add up due to high medical expenses, lost wages, and reduced productivity. People also have to live their life worried about their cancer coming back.
We have many clients that have cancer due to asbestos, benzene, dioxins, contaminated water, vinyl chloride, etc. Cancer diagnoses come with so much uncertainty about the future, but there is still hope for people living with cancer and people living after cancer. There are new treatments and clinical trials frequently. Even when a cancer is terminal like mesothelioma, there are treatments that can at least improve quality of life and extend survival. If you have cancer or previously had cancer, there are resources available that can help with the stresses and uncertainties that the disease brings.
If you have or had cancer and think it was from a toxic substance like asbestos, benzene, dioxins, or another source, contact us today to see if you could be entitled to compensation. Call 412-471-3980 or fill out our contact form and a member of our team will get back to you as soon as possible.
