PRESS RELEASE
PITTSBURGH, PA – May 16, 2018 – Goldberg, Persky & White, P.C., (GPW) congratulates Shareholder David P. Chervenick, Esq. on celebrating 30 years with the firm. Mr. Chervenick joined GPW in 1988 – when it was still known as Henderson and Goldberg – after beginning his career as an assistant district attorney in Pittsburgh in the General Trial Unit and the Crimes Person Unit. After a former ADA turned his attention to asbestos litigation in 1988, Mr. Chervenick joined GPW in May of that year and became a Shareholder in 1992.
In addition to his involvement with Pennsylvania asbestos litigation, Dave Chervenick has focused on the Firm’s personal injury practice, where he handles cases for victims who have been seriously injured by medical negligence, harmful drugs, toxic substances, car accidents, slip and falls and harmful products.
Mr. Chervenick has seen first-hand how asbestosis litigation has changed over the years. Individual cases for those suffering from asbestosis eventually transitioned into mass trials, where hundreds of cases were solved with a single trial. As time went on, more lung cancer and mesothelioma cases began to be tried and asbestosis cases no longer went to trial. Today, most asbestos cases settle before they go to trial because the values of these cases have been established over the years.
Mr. Chervenick has tried more than 150 jury trials to verdict in Pennsylvania, Michigan, West Virginia and Iowa in both state and federal courts. He also has tried more than 200 non-jury trials to verdict. Mr. Chervenick has obtained millions of dollars in verdicts and settlements on behalf of the Firm’s clients.
His advice for young lawyers just starting out: “Never forget that behind the name on the file is a person who is suffering because he or she has been harmed. Give your best every day so that person, who has entrusted his or her case to you, can breathe a little easier. It is very rewarding when someone who has been suffering thanks you for helping them.”
