NURSING HOME ABUSE
A growing area of our practice is nursing home abuse. We receive many complaints and inquiries every week from people whose loved ones are in nursing homes and who they fear are being abused or neglected. Unfortunately with our aging population more and more people are spending their so called golden years in nursing homes. As a result, there are now more opportunities for abuse than ever before. When you visit your loved one in a nursing home pay close attention to the way they act when staff members are in the area. Ask yourself whether they seem like they are on guard, become quiter than normal, etc. Make sure you check your loved one’s back, legs and arms for bed sores. Pay attention to the cleanliness of the room and the bathroom. Ask the nursing staff to see the chart that keeps track of the medications taken by your loved one and the times that the medicines were given. Make sure that all of the medications are being given at the appropriate times. Document any irregularities that you see and ask questions if something doesn’t seem to be right. If you feel that abuse or neglect has occurred please contact us. We can help put an end to an abusive or neglectful situation in a nursing home.
