Lead Toxin Concerns – Toddler Sippy Cup Recall
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) cautions parents that some Green Sprouts bottles and cups pose a danger of lead exposure and should be promptly thrown away. A lead-containing solder dot is seen when base of the cups separates, according to a CPSC press notice.
Since it was not intended to be exposed during regular usage, the lead-containing component of the cup was not evaluated in a safety lab. A spokesperson for the eco-friendly child care products has assured concerned parents that a redesign is in the works – one that does not use a soldering material made of lead – and will continue to keep drinks at comfortable chilled temperature.

What Happens If Your Child is Exposed to Lead?
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention state that there is no acceptable blood lead level for children. Numerous health issues are brought on by exposure, including diminished IQ, brain damage, and other harm to the growth of the brain and neurological system. Even minor lead exposure can inhibit growth, impede hearing and concentration, cause behavioral and learning issues, and affect general cognitive development.
According to the World Health Organization, newborns and young children are particularly susceptible to the consequences of lead exposure because of their developing bodies and because they swallow four to five times more lead as adults.
